Tips for Writing Sales Copy:
Whether you are writing your own sales copy or hiring a copywriter to do so, there are three things every sales letter, flyer or other marketing collateral should include.
The first item your sales copy or sales letter should include is a compelling headline.  Ask any marketing copywriter which part of a sales letter takes the most consideration and they’ll tell you it is the headline.  Simply put, if you don’t have a strong headline, then you don’t have good sales copy or a good sales letter.
The headline of your sales copy should always include a benefit to the consumer.  For example, instead of beginning your sales copy with “We sell the best diet pills ….”, it is much more effective to say “Our diet pills will get you into your bikini by summer vacation….”.  See the difference?
The second item your sales copy or sales letter should include is a bit of building a rapport with potential buyers.  For example, when writing sales copy, be sure to include something sympathetic to the consumer, such as “I used to be a size 16.  I know what it feels like to be overweight…..but then I found XYZ  diet pills and now I’m not scared to wear a bikini in public… Building a rapport with the consumer helps them identify how they would actually benefit from the product and adds validity to the pitch.
The third item your sales copy or sales letter should include is a call to action.  Tell the prospect exactly what you want them to do.  For example, “Click here to buy now!” is a definite call to action.  Any bit of sales copy from the tiniest classified add to a 10 page sales letter should include a definitive call to action.
As you are writing a sales letter or sales copy, remember to always write from the buyer’s perspective—not the seller’s.
